Maggi Brand Consumer Behaviour Research Essay

Well the historical backdrop of this brand follows back to the nineteenth century when mechanical insurgency in Switzerland made industrial facility occupations for ladies, who were accordingly left with almost no an ideal opportunity to plan suppers. Because of this developing issue Swiss Public Welfare Society asked a mill operator named Julius Maggi to make a vegetable food item that would rush to get ready and simple to process. Julius, the child of an Italian settler concocted an equation to bring added taste to suppers in 1863. Not long after he was appointed by the Swiss Public Welfare Society, he concocted two moment pea soups and a bean soup-the primary dispatch of Maggi brand of moment nourishments in 1882-83. Towards the century's end, Maggi organization was creating powdered soups, yet bouillon shapes, sauces and different flavorings. Anyway in India(the biggest customer of Maggi noodles on the planet! ) it was propelled in 1980’s by Nestle gathering of organizations. Maggie had converged with Nestle(This organization also has an extremely fascinating history which I will talk about in some other audit! ) family in 1947. When propelled it needed to confront a solid rivalry from the prepared to eat nibble sections like scones, wafers and so on. Additionally it had other contender the alleged ’home made’ bites which are till today thought to be sound and clean. Subsequently to catch the market it was situated as a clean home made tidbit, a brilliant move. Yet at the same time this didn’t work, as it was focused towards an inappropriate objective gathering, the working ladies. Despite the fact that the item was created for this specific reason. In the wake of directing a broad examination, the firm discovered that the youngsters were the greatest customers of Maggi noodles. Rapidly a methodology was created to catch the children fragment with different instruments of deals advancement like pencils, fun books, maggi clubs which did some incredible things for it. Presumably the advertisements of maggi have demonstrated an eager child saying ’’Mummy bhookh lagi hai’’ to which his mother answers ’’Bas do minute! ’’ and soon he is cheerfully eating Maggie noodles. The organization could have handily situated the item as a dinner, however didn't, as an investigation had indicated that Indian mindset didn't acknowledge something besides rice or roti as supper. They made it a simple to cook tidbit that could be set up in only two minutes. The recipe clicked well and maggi turned into a brand name. That’s correctly what is required in making an item a brand The brand has developed to an expected 200 crore and adds to around 10% of Nestle India’s top line. So next time when you are eating this noodles simply recall these realities that have proceeded to make Maggi a brand. In the mid 1980s India was opening up to the world following three and a half many years of self-presence. Till at that point, the idea of â€Å"fast food† was for all intents and purposes non-existent. Settle had just been pipped to the post by Cadbury in the milk chocolate portion and it urgently needed to make a specialty for itself in the high possible Indian market. It was then that it understood that it could be a first-mover in the undiscovered â€Å"instant food† fragment. Quite a long while passed by and a great deal of cash was spent and Maggi Noodles was conceived. The issues had just barely started. The greatest of them was the Indian mind of the 80s. The conservatism which India appeared in their way of life came down to their sense of taste moreover. They would prefer to adhere to their Tandoori Chicken or Idli Sambhar than be somewhat more bold in attempting another taste. Maggi Noodles was another taste from another culture. It was then that Maggi Noodles became Maggi Instant Two-Minute Noodles. The general purpose was to position Maggi as foundation of accommodation and soul nourishment for the a quickly developing segment of the Indian populace †the working ladies. Substantial advancement was done on similar lines. Yet, even this didn't work. Deals were acceptable yet not in the same class as they needed it to be. An exploration was completed which uncovered that the biggest shoppers of the brand were not the working ladies but rather small kids in the Indian family units. Understanding this, Nestle repositioned their image utilizing new limited time techniques and savvy promoting. Promoting groups were conveyed to schools to disseminate free Maggi tests to bring home. The children would unavoidably take their Maggi parcels home and approach their moms to set it up for lunch or as a tidbit. The moms would find that it took them just two minutes to make a legitimate hot dinner for their kids who might cherish it. They would allude it to their neighbors who might give it to far off lone wolf cousins who lived alone and needed to cook for themselves. Consequently, the enormously fruitful viral battle guaranteed that Maggi made a particular friendship in the hearts of its shoppers not at all like some other exclusive food of now is the ideal time. Yet, the story was a long way from being done. In 1997, Nissin †the creator of moment noodles †propelled its leader image Top Ramen in the Indian market with Shah Rukh Khan †straight from the accomplishment of super hits like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge †embracing the brand. It was then that Maggi made its first bogus stride †it changed its taste to adjust itself to that of Top Ramen’s. The outcomes were sad. An age which had experienced childhood with Maggi couldn't acknowledge the new taste and would prefer to check out Top Ramen. Settle was quick losing ground to Nissin. It took them two years to work out another technique †acknowledge the consumer’s decision and start again from scratch. In 1999, Maggi relaunched itself with its unique taste. It paid off abundantly and the faithfuls came back to their lord. Top Ramen could no longer support the development it developed in the two years. The following huge obstacle came in 2004. The SARS pandemic of 2003 in South East Asia had prompted across the board concerns with respect to individual cleanliness and wellbeing. Moms were currently increasingly concerned in regards to what their youngsters were eating and maida as a rule was constantly viewed as low on the wellbeing angle. In 2005 Maggi propelled Atta Noodles with the slogan â€Å"Taste bhi, wellbeing bhi. † Although the promotions indicated Atta Noodles supplanting the rotis and chapatis, this was never Maggi’s aim. It realized that considering that goal was a long ways and the fundamental reason for existing was to persuade moms that their kids was eating the best thing. In this sense, it scored over the Licia and Bambino semolina-based Macaroni items, which, however being a more advantageous option to Maggi, consistently attempted to situate themselves as a substitute for wheat based things of every day utilization. Inside 10 months, Maggi Atta Noodles was pronounced a triumph and now they are foraying further with the â€Å"Taste bhi, Health bhi† battle with items, for example, Multi-Grain Noodles. The above models show that Maggi as a brand knows the client and is happy to gain from its missteps. It realizes that its USP is accommodation to ake and great to eat and it adheres to that without stretching the limits further in its crusades. It has additionally utilized its prosperity to other food items †the most striking of which is the Maggi ketchup which has earned a market head position of about 45% to a great extent because of the Maggi brand and its situating as a â€Å"Different† item ( Remember the slogan †Its unique! ). The hero of numerous understudies (and particularly the ones remaining in inns), there is little uncertainty with respect to why many view Maggi as the best innovation since the wheel.

Anyone of any social status, academic level, age, height, weight, you name it has the possibility of being a victim of domestic violence. However, there are certain risk factors that increases the likelihood of becoming a victim. In bad neighborhoods, they may feel socially ostracized if there is tension in the area and a lack of community. This can also be a consequence of victimization because the offender may separate himself and the victim from all contact from family, friends, etc. When the victim needs love and support, they will not know where to go. Isolation can be a precursor to abuse as well. For example, when the victim was younger and in a public school system, they may have been isolated and not had very many friends. This†¦show more content†¦This may also be a consequence because the victim may feel as if they could not have a healthy, â€Å"normal† relationship without the presence of promiscuity or delinquent behavior, such as doing drugs. The offender and future suitors may pressure the victim to do things that end up victimizing the individual again. Of course, having a history of prior sexual or any other type of physical and psychological abuse is a risk factor and a consequence. The victim will have grown up thinking that abuse is the only way to resolve conflict and will not be able to comprehend any other way of resolution to these problems. This can also lead to mental health problems which makes the victim even more vulnerable to future victimization. This is also a consequence in that once the victim comes out of a bad relationship, their view on conflict resolution will lead them back into another bad relationship. Traditional gender roles are also a risk factor for victimization. The victim views the man of the relationship as the power-holding and dominant partner of the relationship and the women is meant to cater to his every need. While this is a common view, how it becomes a risk factor is when this view is twisted and the victim sees abuse as the male proving his dominance over the woman. Again, this will be viewed as the norm, and this cycle will continue based on what

Dynamic Interrogation of Wireless Antenna Sensor †Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Dynamic Interrogation of Wireless Antenna Sensor. Answer: Introduction: Antennas are devices which are used to convert the electronic signals coming from a source into electronic waves to be sent to the destination. The most basic components of a circuit are the presence of antennas in the system as they are responsible for the interconnection among the sender and the receiver. In addition, the sender and the receiver have the free space to serve as the guided media for the communication management. The antennas have major characteristics that define the properties of working of them. These are the antenna gain, aperture, bandwidth, directivity and polarization, and effective length. Wire and travelling wave antennas: The linear or curved antennas are termed as the wire antennas. The main use of these antennas is due to the fact of low cost and simple designs [1]. They are mainly divided in to the dipole antennas, short dipole antennas, monopole antennas and the loop antennas. The travelling wave antennas are those types which uses the travelling wave on a guided media for radiating mechanisms. Their main operations include the travelling of the radio waves in a single direction. They are mainly divided into the helical antennas and the Yagi-Uda antennas. The major antenna characteristics are used to define the operations management of the antenna. These include the antenna gain, aperture, bandwidth and directivity, polarization, and effective length [1]. The gain of the antenna is used to define the degree of radial pattern of the antenna. An antenna with a much high gain has a more effective radiation pattern than an antenna with a low gain [2]. The manufacturing of the antennas are done to facilitate the increase of directed power in the wanted directions and vice-versa. The aperture, also termed as the effective aperture is used to associate with the transmission and the reception of electromagnetic signals. The collective area of the antenna is associated with the main power received [1]. This area is termed as the effective aperture. The directivity of an antenna is used to determine the ability of an antenna to direct the radiation power in a certain direction. It can also be used to measure the radiation intensity in a given direction compared to the intensity in other directions. Bandwidth is another specification that is used to determine the frequency range of operation for the antenna. The property to change the orientation of the sent signal from antenna is termed as polarization [2]. The polarization techniques can range from horizontal to vertical. In case the signal is polarized vertically, a vertical antenna is used for the reception and in case the polarization is done horizontally, a horizontal antenna is to be used for the reception of signals. The effective length is another characteristics used to define the efficiency of the antenna. Both the transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals can define the effective length of the antenna [3]. In general, the effective length is defined as the ratio of non-uniform current area distribution to the uniform current area distribution. This type of antenna has a straight alignment consisting of thin metal rods with sinusoidal voltages. They are made in such a way so as to facilitate working frequencies at a quarter wavelengths. The main working of the antenna includes the passage of voltages and currents through these rods which in turn leads to the generation of the electromagnetic wave spectrum [4]. The main applications of these antennas are the RF antennas. This type of antenna is used to address the presence of passive elements for working. The major advantage for this type of antenna is the presence of low cost and efficient workings. It consists of one or more reflector elements. It also includes the presence of one or more driver elements [5]. The main specifications of the Yagi-Uda antenna is the presence of reflectors at the back, drivers at the forward direction and the horizontal polarization mount for communications. The parabolic reflector antennas, as the name suggests, makes use of the ray optics for referring the communication requirements. The main features of the antenna are the use of rays and wave fronts [6]. The main application of this type of antenna is the conversion of a broad beam of signals to a narrow beam. The feeds which use such requirements are the horn feeds, dipole feeds and the Cartesian feeds management. Differentiation among the antennas: Dipole Yagi-Uda Parabolic reflectors Gain 1.76 dBi for short dipole and 2.15 dBi for half-wave dipole 4-5 dB 30-40 dB Aperture 0.1194* (lambda)^2 Square aperture of 20 cm across 1.6 * (lambda)^2 Bandwidth and directivity 2.15 dB (half-wave) 10-20 dB 10-40 dB Polarization Vertically polarized Vertically polarized Low cross polarization Effective length Half wavelength (half-wave) 0.475 wavelength Full-wavelength CST studio suite: The CST STUDIO SUITE is used for the conduction of simulations in the area of electromagnetic prospects. The various applications along the electromagnetic spectrum can be used across a single user interface. It can also be used for the possibility of combinations of these applications. This gives the personnel responsible, the efficient application for the simulative purposes [7]. In addition, the main example of this suite is the development of industrial virtual prototypes which is used to determine the various threats and compliance of the actual products to be made. The modeling of the half-wave dipole antenna can be done by using the CST studio suite. The main adjustments in the length are done to tune the antenna to 1 GHz. The main model of construction uses the antenna cell designs. The polarization characteristics are used to determine the characteristics of the antenna. To do the requirements, the design tool such as the Antenna Magus is used to calculate the requirements. The next step includes the full array simulation that is used to specify the array behavior of the antennas. This is mainly done for the calculations of the directivity specifications. The next step is the performance analysis [8]. This is done to know the performance of the dipole antenna with respect to the parameters involved. The changes in the position of the antenna with respect to the surroundings can also be done by the use of the CST MODEL SUITE. This includes the process of simulations to achieve the desired outcomes. Beamforming is a technique used for spatial filtering for the receptions and the transmission of the signals. It is mainly used in the sensor arrays. The main working of the antenna is done in such a way so as to get constructive interferences from certain portions of the antenna and destructive interferences from the other portions of the antenna. The main applications of this technology are in radar, SONAR and intelligent transport systems. An intelligent transport system is used to reference new technologies for the increase in efficiency of communications [9]. The system is based on the use of wireless communications to provide better efficiency in communications. The main objectives of this system are the use of radio communication links among the vehicles in the road and the road-side beacons which leads to the formation of ad-hoc network. The directional antennas can be used to increase the efficiency of the transportation features. In addition, the use of array with wide bandwidth and beam steering capabilities are required for the increasing efficiency in transportation services. This can also be done by the use of beamforming networks (BFN) to facilitate control over the phase and the amplitude of the elements of the array in the antenna [10]. The main examples of the network are Butler Matrix and Rotman lens. The IEEE Standard 1597.1 is a technique to simulate and model the various electromagnetic codes. It can be applied to an extensive list of electromagnetic applications. The major use of this standard is the digital mapping and simulation of the models and codes present of the electromagnetic spectrums. The IEEE Standard 1597.1 can also be used for the electromagnetic compatibility addressing. It can also be used for the detection of the radar cross-sectional areas. Furthermore, the integrity of the signals along with the antenna integrity can also be referenced by the IEEE Standard 1597.1 [11]. The main aim for the use of the IEEE Standard 1597.1 is the comparison and validation of the data sets. These can be obtained by measurements of values, alternative methods of code retrieval, analytical methods of information gathering and canonical methods. The main use of the IEEE Standard 1597.1 is the comparison of the analytical data and measurements. This can be done by the use of value measurements, reception of the codes for analysis from alternate sources, analytical methods for code referencing and he canonical ways of information gathering. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded from the report that the use of various antennas can be used for use in intelligent transport systems. In addition, the IEEE Standard 1597.1 is also used for the application of the analysis of the gathered data. Wireless communications helps various aspects to modernize their services and increase their operational efficiencies. Tired and defeated with her early yearss at a low paying difficult work Carrie chooses to go forth her sister? the lone existent household she has in the metropolis? and goes off with a Drouet, a adult male she merely late met on the train. Carrie knew nil about Drouet except that he seemed to like her and appeared to hold more money than she could of all time acquire her custodies on. When she goes off with him there is no struggle within her, no declinations, no 2nd ideas. As shortly as an chance to go forth her deadening life arrived Carrie took it and neer looked back. All she cared approximately was the fact that now she no longer needed to work long hours for small wage. By going Drouet? s kept adult female she no longer had to worry about acquiring comfy vesture, good repast and money. People knew her as Mrs. Drouet and she liked it. Through Drouet Carrie met her following adult male? Hurstwood, a director at Fitzgerald and Moy? . Carrie flirted and spend clip with him with out giving it a 2nd idea. It did non trouble oneself her that Hurstwood was twice her age? in fact he was old plenty to be her male parent. She neer stopped to believe that person of his place, and in her eyes he was decidedly much higher on a societal graduated table than Drouet, might be married, have a household, duties and duties to them every bit good as to others. To Carrie # 8220 ; Hurstwood seemed retarding force in the way of award # 8221 ; ( Dreiser, 128 ) , but how would she cognize what award was and what it meant? She had none? otherwise she would neer go forth her household to go a unbroken adult female and shortly after that a place wrecker. Hurstwood left his married woman, kids and respectable occupation to transport on his matter with Carrie. He even stole from his longtime employers to be with Carrie. In return she dumped him when he proved to be of no usage to her in the pursuit for the better life. As Dreiser observed Carrie # 8220 ; wanted pleasance, she wanted place, and yet she was confused as to what these things might be # 8221 ; ( Dreiser, 139 ) . Even old ages subsequently when she became a celebrated and popular New York actress she still did non possess what she desired. Peoples admired her, she was paid really good, and yet there was ever something losing. She neer got married? non to Drouet, non to Hurstwood ; she merely used them both to acquire in front without even recognizing that what she was making was incorrect and immoral. Alternatively she believed they did her incorrect. Therefore Carrie expressed no feelings of shame, sorrow, guilt or compunction for aching Drouet and taking Hurstwood towards his alone decease in a unusual metropolis among aliens. At the terminal of the novel as Carrie sits in her rocking chair, surrounded by her beautiful gowns and expensive furniture there the sense that she is non happy and neer could be. She is entirely among many friend and supporters. Although she changed her economic position by gaining more and more, she could neer alter her societal standing. She was born hapless, grew up without instruction and privileges of wealth and that could neer be overlooked in the proper society of the Victorian age. Carrie could neer carry through a place of a Victorian adult female with all the fixingss implied: wealth, instruction, household background and values.

Glass Menagerie Essays - English-language Films, The Glass Menagerie

Glass Menagerie Essays - English-language Films, The Glass Menagerie Glass Menagerie In The Glass Menagerie, the main characters are Laura, Amanda, Tom, Jim, and Father. Each character can be found with symbols that best represent them. Laura 's two symbols are Blue Roses and her glass menagerie, Unicorn. Amanda 's yellow dress and bathrobe can express her love she has of the past event. Tom 's symbols are the movies and merchant marine. Jim's symbolize itself as a gentlemen caller for Laura. The Father 's portrait portrays his abandonment of the Wingfield family. Laura is a hypersensitive young girl. She spends all of her time in a world of glass ornaments and stayed in her apartment. Even though she tries several times to participate in the outside world, she is too fragile. The Blue Roses represent the uniqueness of Laura. Blue Roses do not exist in this world or even if there is, it is not by nature. This rose is different from other roses just as Laura is different from other girls. The color blue represents the sadness and depression. Laura felt these feelings at home because she is not as popular as Amanda and she cannot succeed in college that Amanda hopes her to be. Amanda's expectation caused Laura to feel bad when she does not meet her requirements. Laura had dropped out of Rubicam Business College and she can not find any gentleman caller. Roses represent Laura along with her beauty and innocence. The stem of the rose can define as the support that Amanda and Tom gave her. The thorn is her shyness. It is her shy! ness that no one wants to go near her and she does not want to go near anyone. The Glass Menagerie represents Laura' hypersensitive nature and fragility. Laura is just as easily broken as a glass unicorn and just as unique. When Jim accidentally bumps into the unicorn and breaks it, the unicorn is no longer unique. When Jim kisses Laura and then shatters her hopes by telling her he is engaged, she becomes broken-hearted and less unique. The innocence that made Laura so unique is now lost. Both Laura and the glass menagerie break when they are exposed to the outside world. When Laura gives Jim her broken unicorn, it symbolizes her broken heart that Jim will take with him when he leaves. She gives Jim a little bit of herself to take with him and he leaves behind a little bit of himself with her shattered horses. Amanda is a middle-aged southern woman whose husband had abandoned her. She spends her time reminiscing about her seventeen gentlemen callers and nagging at Tom and Laura. She is completely depending on Tom for financial business of the family and a responsibility for Laura's future. Amanda dreams back to the time when she was a young girl wearing yellow dress. Those certainly were better days. The past was a wonderful experience for her compare to the reality which she a now an abandoned wife with two children. Mr. Wingfield was cruel to leave the family but Amanda still loves him. She wears his bathrobe and often looks at the portrait of her husband. She can not put the past behind her. Amanda is obsessed with her past as she constantly reminds Tom and Laura of that one Sunday afternoon in Blue Mountain. " When Jim arrives, Amanda is dressed in the same girlish frock she wore on the day that she met her husband. She regresses to her childish days of entertaining! the gentleman callers. She chooses to live in the past. Moreover, she hoped that the gentleman caller is not handsome because Mr. Wingfield is handsome and he wins her heart in a second. She does not want Tom to be a drunkard, have manner in eating, and stop smoking. She wished her children luck, happiness, and success in the future but irony, she rather live in a life of illusion and recall all of her past experience. Tom Wingfield loves to go to the movies. But Amanda does not believe that his evenings are so innocent. She does not understand that Tom wants adventure. Since his life is full of responsibility: money, future of Laura, boring job. He wanted more in

Impact of the Internet on small businesses Research Paper

Impact of the Internet on small businesses - Research Paper Example Through the internet, a business of any size can compete in the global marketplace. In fact, on the internet, the size of an organizations operation makes little difference because the internet is an open environment. Similar companies compete against one another while being only a click of the mouse away. In other words, a buyer can locate numerous sellers offering similar merchandise, similar prices and similar offers in a very short time period. As more people and businesses become comfortable with the internet, the marketing landscape will continue to evolve quickly in the coming years (The Influence of Internet on Modern Business, 2009). The arrival of internet related technologies helped small scale industries immensely. Many of the traditional business concepts were given way for internet related business strategies because of the arrival of computers and internet. For example, internet helped the business world to convert many of the offline market spaces into online market spaces. Moreover, outsourcing, offshoring like modern business principles were evolved out because of the developments in internet related technologies. Advertising is another in which internet helps small scale industries immensely. Social networks are used extensively by the businesses for marketing and advertising purposes. At the same time, internet has the potential to affect small businesses negatively also. For example, internet helped globalization in many ways. It should be noted that globalization helped corporate companies to expand their business all over the world. The intrusion of corporate companies in small scale industry segments is causing big threats to the small business groups. In short, internet provides both opportunities and threats to small businesses. This paper analyses the impacts of internet on small businesses. The Internet potentially can be used by small businesses to support external (inter-organizational and

Differences between Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Surgery Essay

Differences between Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Surgery - Essay Example As the study stresses that perhaps one that is predominantly practiced all over the world is cosmetic surgery; this type of plastic surgery mainly aims to alter the physical appearance of a person. Many people have always been concerned with their looks and appearance more than their internal qualities and this is motivation enough for them to desire enhancement of their looks. This is what has led to the pervasiveness of the plastic surgery trend worldwide thus instigating serious concerns over the justification of plastic surgery; in other words, is it or is it not right to carry out plastic surgery? This question has been debatable in the world probably more than anything else concerning moral issues has, and many people have had their own varied contributions to this debate. Thus, he does agree with the school of thought that supports plastic surgery, at least to make something wrong go right for once; there are exceedingly many reasons why people carry out plastic surgery and I believe they are all justifiable. This paper aims to disambiguate the social dilemma that is plastic surgery, and it will attempt to justify the reasons why plastic surgery is carried out, and gunner support for this controversial trend. From this discussion it is clear that to begin with, even though the name plastic surgery suggests a close tie with synthetic material, plastic surgery has nothing to do with ‘plastic looks’ as is often concluded by moralists. In fact, the name originates from a Greek word ‘plastikos’, which means ‘to form’ or ‘to mold’. In this regard, plastic surgery remains a crucial type of surgery that serves many justifiable reasons, both medical and aesthetical. Doctors perform reconstructive procedures to reinstate distortions both on the face and on the body of patients that might have been because of either natural or physical causes. For instance, natural deformities are manifest on individuals from birth, and they include physical distortions of organs as in cleft lips and palates while other deformities might arise from physical injuries such as burns, animal bites  and  accidents. Some diseases such as cancer might also necessitate plastic surgery in the end after the loss of the affected body organ; this is especially common with breast cancer where most patients opt to undergo reconstructive surgeries to rebuild the lost breasts. On the other hand, cosmetic surgery  is concerned with the enhancement of physical appearances. Due to its cosmetic purposes, this type of plastic surgery is often also referred to as aesthetic surgery; however, cosmetic procedures do not necessarily call for surgery in the medical fashion. Quite notably, most cosmetic surgeries involve enlargement and reduction of body organs such as breasts; the reshaping of body organs such as the nose; or removing of fatty tissues from body parts that are overly bulky with fats. In view of these two broad reasons for plastic surgery presented above, it is vital to regard plastic surgery in a different light, and move away from the negative traditional perceptions that society has held against plastic surgery.

John Taylor Gatto Against School Essay Example for Free

John Taylor Gatto Against School Essay When it comes to the traditional education, John Taylor Gatto’s â€Å"Against School† questions whether we really need the nine month, drawn out, traditional curriculum. Gatto goes on to name several successful people through history that were not products of a contemporary school system. When I think of Gatto’s theory of forced schooling, a friend of mine named John Smith who goes by the alias of Viper comes to mind. Viper is in his late 20’s, lives in South Philadelphia, and has worked as a Roofer for the past 10 years. Viper went to a public school in South Philadelphia. Viper went to a school where said, â€Å"It wasn’t easy. I was scrawny and white and we were poorer than the jigs that went to school wit us, so we caught alota shit.† Viper’s school was extremely underfunded. â€Å"Some days there would be trash laid out by the trash cans cause nobody would change the trash bags, the food was shit, and the bathrooms†¦forget it.† He would walk twelve blocks back to his house just to go to the bathroom. There were no extracurricular activities like book clubs and band and the school was rundown and decrepit. Eventually he started to miss classes regularly. He felt that the teachers did not care. Classes were extremely boring to him. He was actually approached by his biology teacher and told he could cut class everyday as long as he turned in his work and he would receive a D at the end of the year. He was not amused by the offer, he was not even interested in graduating anymore. â€Å"I expected to be a laborer for the rest of my life so I felt like education was unimportant.† Viper’s education started taking a back seat to work around his sophomore year of high school. He was the middle child in a family of four, all of whom have dropped out of high school and are laborers today. â€Å"My parents made me get a job when I was thirteen, that’s the way it was with all my brothers,† says Viper. Eventually he started to make a decent amount of money and admits to being extremely naà ¯ve, saying â€Å"Why the fuck was I gonna go ta school for eight more years if I was makin’ 25-30 thousand dollars a year. Do the math, instead of spendin 100 thousand dollars in college and waste my time in school I coulda made 200 thousand dollars by the time I was 24.† One day Viper decided to make an appointment with a school counselor. He was hardly going to class, working every day when he was supposed to be in school, and partying every night and having fun. School was more of a social event. He was just going to school to see his friends and make plans for the weekend. When he told the school counselor that he was planning on dropping out the counselor stood up, looked him in the eye, extended his hand and said, â€Å"Good Luck!† â€Å"The guy didn’t even give a shit!† Viper said. By the time December came around of his sophomore year, he was a high school dropout. He was working everyday by that time already so he was not stagnant. He was still living with his parents. The fact that he dropped out was ok with them because he could â€Å"contribute to the house,† as his father put it. Viper eventually saved enough money to get his own place and now lives with his wife of three years and their two children who are two and five years of age. He said, â€Å"I always thought I learned more out of school than in high school, but it’s not what my kids are gonna do†. He aspires to open his own roofing company one day. Although I do not agree with the path that Viper chose in life, he is happy and successful today. He is a great father and happily married. He does not drink anymore and devotes every second of his free time to his family. In a way he is almost a survivor to me. He is not well spoken or the brightest guy in the world, but he would d o anything in his power to help any person in a bind.

Rape in Romanesque Art Essay -- Art

The Rape of Ganymede capital in San Madeleine in Và ©zelay is a depiction of the story of the rape or abduction of Ganymede. On its front face the capital features an eagle holding the young shepherd boy, Ganymede, in its mouth. Ganymede is being held upside down helplessly with a look of terror on his face. On the left are two adults holding their heads and staring helplessly at the eagle taking the boy. On the right side is a demon looking out at the viewer sticking its tongue out in happiness, as if to taunt us. In the eagle’s talons is a dog, which looks like a hyena, baring its teeth. The capital depicts a story from Aeniad, where Jupiter becomes infatuated with the handsome shepherd boy, Ganymede, and according to his version of the story, sends an eagle down to abduct the boy. Ganymede then serves as Jupiter’s cupbearer, and this evokes jealousy from Juno, thus incurring her wrath which is supposedly one of the factors that begins the Trojan War. Virgil’s version of the story is similar, but includes the visual element of the barking dog and the guardians on the side, unable to aid the boy. Both story versions come from Antiquity. As I began analyzing this capital, it took me a while to get a grasp on what was going on. There is a lot of content crammed into a small space on this capital. All the figures are oversized and in extremely close proximity to one another. I noticed the caricature-like portrayal of the figures. This seems to be the case in all the capitals at Và ©zelay. I was particularly interested in the facial expressions. The face of Ganymede is filled with dear and confusion as he hangs upside down. The dog looks frightening and angry, but it is unclear to me if he is sided with Jupiter’s eagle or if he is... ... Meaning on a Capital Representing the Fall of Man.† Tradito 55 (2000): 105-123. Editorial Analysis Essay

1. An Argument is Addressed to a Specific Audience at a Particular Time Recently two farms in Iowa had to perform a massive recall in eggs due to a salmonella poisoning from contaminated feed. The poisoning has caused the two companies to recall more than half a billion eggs, and has made about 1,500 people ill. Now, the companies are claiming that they are committed to safety and that it is up to the consumer of the eggs to fully cook the eggs before eating. This argument is addressed to egg consumers raising awareness that farm CEO’s are overlooking safety procedures due to their cost. The editorial addresses the FDA of having a poor history of inspecting food providers, and ignoring what they find. Anyone purchasing not only eggs but food from normally trusted farms is included in the editorials audience portion. Argument Wants Something From Its Audience This article does not specially call its audience to action, however it does raise awareness in its readers. The article reminds its readers of other slip-up’s from the FDA’s poor inspection quality and limited action to reduce the occurrences of poisoning. The article suggests that broader vaccination of chickens would help the issue as well as a food safety bill. An Argument Gives Its Audience Reasons for What it Wants Brought up in the article are several other examples of overlooked issues causing harm on citizens due to financial cutbacks or careless inspection. The explosion of a well in the Gulf of Mexico killing 11, an explosion of another mine in West Virginia killing 29, and the Peanut Corp. of America killing nine and sickening 700 are all reasons for the audience to be aware of what is happening in â€Å"trusted† companies and for action to be taken within the FDA and the companies themselves regarding safety. Not All the Reasons Are Stated Openly. The writer here assumes that the reader has been following the recent poisonings and harm to citizens due to poor inspection, and never calls the reader to any specific action. He only provides a recent history of what has happened, then proposes a list of solutions. He never blatantly says that if we do not rise to action more and more people will die. He lets the reader figure that out through his facts and data. The audience must complete the argument for the arguer based on the facts provided. Arguments Are Supported by Calling on Readers’ Attitudes and Feelings By providing so many examples of sickness and death, the article allows the reader to experience many negative emotions towards the neglect of the safety of companies that it supports its own argument within the reader. The reader will become concerned with the safety of him/herself, as well as his/her family and form the opinion in favor of the writer. 6. The Source of the Argument Matters USA today is a well-known and highly read paper not only by American citizens but by international ones as well. Many people with families read the paper, therefore making it appropriate to address to its audience. Everyone who reads this paper also consumes food, also providing the perfect audience. The source is highly credible through the paper and it also provides a link to the opposing argument, illustrating that the paper is not biased. A Counterargument is Always in the Background Provided on the page are links to information and articles regarding the counterargument that the farms are committed to safety and that it is up to the consumer to cook the eggs fully before eating.
